How to update Twitter from Quicksilver

This will let you post a 140 character update to Twitter with 142 key presses. I take no credit for this, I’ve just done a bit of Googling and compiled info from here, here and here.

Firstly go to this link and download the script. Unzip it. That is essentially the same script as the one that this guy wrote, but with a Growl notification to let you know that is has been sent.

Save the script in Users/YOURNAME/Library/Application Support/Quicksilver/Actions
If the Actions folder doesn’t exist, create it.

Open Keychain Access, hit the little plus at the bottom and put in:
Item Name: http://twitter.com
Account Name: Your email address
Password: Your password

One of the sources for this info said that if you have Twitteriffic then doing this step wasn’t necessary. But it didn’t work for me until I did it.

From there you should be able to launch Quicksilver, hit ‘.’ and type a tweet, hit tab and type Tweet then hit enter. But lets make it a bit easier by setting up a trigger.

Go into the Triggers section in Quicksilver, hit the little plus and type Tweet, make sure it has found the Tweet script then hit tab and type in Process Text, then hit save.

Click under triggers to open the drawer and set a trigger key. I’ve used F6 and because that was allocated to spaces I had to disable it in System Preferences under Keyboard & Mouse.

Lastly, if you want the pretty Twitteriffic icon to come up when you press your trigger, instead of the ugly script icon. Locate the script, get info and replace the icon with the Twitteriffic one, or whatever other icon you’d like to use.
